A staged scene for destiny
This long-durational performance explores the mythology of a woman-calculator who anticipates the future; the woman known as the estimated Destiny. By examining cultural relations to divination and the magical powers of predicting the future, particularly in Central Africa, the artist raises questions about notions of the long term, projection and establishment in the future, in a world where stories are disappearing to make way for capital profit. An environment made up of a table, a chair and a sandbox for lighting, exposes the passing of time through sand falling like stardust and hydraulic marbles that swell and swell in glasses. Dressed in Sunday best, the artist performs ngola against herself. Her gestures are amplified like the inaudible sound of meteors in the sky or roots under the earth, in a scene between fantasy and reality, everyday life and tragedy, archetype and myth.
An international group of curators is responsible for the Performance Programme of STAGE Bregenz 2025: Perrrformat (Zurich), Marlene A. Schenk (Kunstverein Friedrichshafen) and Lukas Weithas (DOCK 20 Lustenau).
Date: Saturday 22.03.25
Time: 2-4 pm
